TE PAPAKURA O TARANAKI NATIONAL PARK

Our Environment

Taranaki and its many vibrant communities have a long standing and passionate love for their Mounga (Mountain) and the rich environment that surrounds it.

Here at Kererū Ridge Lifestyle we are excited to able to provide this unique opportunity for you and your family to become part of a growing community that is committed to extending the positive ecological footprint of Te Papakura o Taranaki (Egmont) National Park.

For ecosystems to thrive first they must exist.

Partial restoration of farmland back to its natural state provides a way for these precious systems to not only exist but to thrive.

Predator Free Taranaki

The team at Kererū Hills Lifestyle collaborates with the Taranaki Regional Council on their "Toward a Predator Free Taranaki" initiative, actively implementing a predator trapping program across the Estate.

  • Kererū Ridge Lifestyle | No Cat policy

    No cat policy explained

Kereru Ridge Lifestyle maintains a no cats policy on the estate and while this may be controversial for some, cats are known apex predators and as such can impact significantly on native birdlife, insects and lizards all of whom have no defence against cat attacks. It is estimated feral cats are killing 100 million native species every year in New Zealand so we have taken a step toward helping protect this wildlife on the Parkland and adjoining National Park by introducing a no cats policy throughout the Parkland. The prolific bird song throughout the day especially at sunrise and dusk in predator free areas makes up for this small sacrifice.

    Toward Predator Free

Kereru Ridge Lifestyle maintain a predator management program throughout the Parkland. We work closely with the Taranaki Regional Council, DOC and local Iwi to support their “Toward a Predator Free Taranaki (2050)’ initiative. With Kiwi, whio, Kereru, Bellbird, Tui, Weta and Gecko, to name but a few, all living in close proximity, it’s important that we help protect them by controlling local predators such as stoats, ferrets, weasels, rats and wild cats. As a resident you can join in this program and work with us to help the native wildlife thrive and flourish.

  • Kererū Ridge Lifestyle | How you can help

    How you can help

The team at Kereru Hills Ridge will work with you to help establish a predator control program on your property. Subsidised traps are available through the Taranaki Regional Council and we will provide training on how to manage these control stations. Because Kiwi are exclusively ground dwelling birds we have established a policy for all dogs on the Parkland to have been kiwi avoidance trained and we can help you organise training for your dog once you have purchased your desired property.
